Introduction

The Directorate of Labour (like its administrative Department i.e. Labour Department) is the custodian of the guaranteed rights of the workers like right to organize, right to collective bargaining, participation in the affairs of the respective organization, health & safety, minimum wages, compensation, etc.. For realization of its role, it enforces various labour laws. Through the implementation of the labour laws it ensures compliance of the International Labour Standards and thus contributes to achieving GSP, GSP+, GSP++, MFN, etc. status by securing higher position in the grading system applied by the granting countries, regions and organizations. It also enforces international system of weights and measures in the province. Besides, it carries out awareness raising drive in the workers, employers and other stakeholders on labour issues, labour laws and contemporary issues.

 Objective

• Settlement of Industrial Disputes, and individual and collective grievances to ensure Industrial
• Registration of Trade Unions and Associations.
• Implementation/enforcement of various labour lawsthrough periodic inspections;
• Adjudication on payment of compensation to the industrial workers under the KP Workers’ Compensation Act, 2013, and adjudication of claims under the KP Payment of Wages Act, 2013;
• Enforcement of International Standards of Weights & Measures (International Standards);
• Enforcement of KP Prohibition of Employment of Children Act, 2015;
• Enforcement of KP Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 2015;
• Fixation and Enforcement of minimum wages for workers;
• Education of workers and employers on Labour Laws and contemporary issues.
• Collection, compilation, and dissemination of labour statistics;
• ILS reporting (GSP+, TIC reports, TIP reports etc.)
• Playing role in tripartite bodies, tripartite conferences, and matters relating to ILO, UNICEF, UN-Women, World Bank, etc
